IPC Announces Manufacturing Day 2016 Hosted by Zentech Manufacturing

August 30, 2016 | IPC

Manufacturing Day 2016 is a chance to celebrate the industry and inspire the next generation of manufacturers. In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2015, more than 400,000 people attended 1,700 events across the country. Don’t miss the opportunity to join the growing list of companies planning to celebrate this year on October 7, 2016.

IPC member company Zentech Manufacturing Inc. participates annually in Manufacturing Day by hosting local electronics technology students, provides tours of their facility, and has had the highlighted success of a keynote address from Ambassador Michael Froman, United States Trade Representative.

“Zentech is pleased to once again be involved with National Manufacturing Day and we applaud IPC’s co-sponsorship of this event. Celebrating and ensuring our existing and future pipeline of skilled workers is critical to maintaining an innovative and productive U.S. economy. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education is key to developing a workforce matched to the needs of industry. Zentech works closely with nearby colleges and technical schools to promote STEM and give students a view into advanced manufacturing taking place in their own backyards. National Manufacturing Day helps promote these efforts,” said Matt Turpin, president and CEO, Zentech Manufacturing, Inc.

If you’re interested, but not sure how to get involved, please view IPC’s Manufacturing Day 2016 website for event ideas, a social media toolkit, and more.

If you have any questions or need assistance with planning your own event, please contact Julie Desisto at JulieDesisto@ipc.org or +1 202-661-8093.

Posted: Sunday, July 31, 2016 By LINDLEY ESTES THE FREE LANCE–STAR

Manufacturing isn’t what it used to be. As local companies are adapting to new techniques of producing goods, the region is looking at how to attract more advanced manufacturing firms and provide a ready workforce.

Colonial Assembly & Design, founded locally in 1982 at 3361 Shannon Airport Circle in Spotsylvania County, was acquired by ZenTech of Baltimore in April 2015.

“It’s a beautiful business,” said ZenTech president Matt Turpin. He said among the reasons ZenTech acquired the business is the region’s “agile and experienced workforce. There were key people located here and we are very happy with the workforce to draw from… In fact, employees commute 45 minutes to an hour to work in Fredericksburg at Colonial. “

He said being near clients in Dahlgren is important, as well.

Veteran IMPACT Washington, D.C. Attendee Matt Turpin on the Events Benefits

SMT Magazine

I made contact with Matt Turpin, CEO of Zentech, before the first evening’s dinner. We sat down to discuss what he hoped to gain by attending the event.

Patty Goldman: Matt, I’d like to know what your expectations are of this meeting.

Matt Turpin: The IPC does this every year, and I’ve been here the last five years for IPC. It’s a great opportunity for the IPC and members of the IPC to meet with their local officials on Capitol Hill as well as other people on Capitol Hill and kind of deliver the message of what’s important to IPC and the IPC vendor, whether it’s in terms of RoHS compliance or conflict minerals, etc. This year it’s Defense Department labor regulations and things like that. It’s a good way for IPC to get its point across and to influence what happens on Capitol Hill. Goldman: How has that worked in the past?
